The entire building is equipped with an audible fire system. Within each unit there are sprinkler heads that will activate if the red fuse in each head is broken or melted. If the sprinklers are activated, an audible alarm will sound throughout the building and the fire department will automatically respond.
Also within each unit are smoke detectors. These detectors provide an audible alarm system that is heard only within your unit. It is not connected to the building fire system and will NOT notify the fire department of an emergency.
SEVERE WEATHER RESPONSE:
In case of severe weather (i.e. tornado alert), go into the hallway for protection. If unable to leave your unit, move away from windows into a bathroom. DO NOT OPEN WINDOWS!
RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Evanston Fire Department and Church Street Station Condo Association recommend that all residents have a portable fire extinguisher in their unit.
In addition, all residents should have battery-operated flashlights in their unit for use during a power outage. Emergency lights in the building common areas operate minimally for evacuation purposes only and do not serve as alternate lighting.
